Do you feel like as soon as you wake up you are already dreading your day? I have been there, too. Some days, you wake up feeling behind when the day has hardly begun. Today, I want to share a few tips that help me start the day off on the right foot:
Start a morning routine. Make your bed, wash your face and start a gratitude journal. If you start the day doing a few things for yourself—even if they are small—you will feel better.
Make a to-do list. This one is HUGE! I love crossing things off my list every day, because it always makes me feel accomplished. Make sure you follow through on your list. Sometimes, unexpected “to dos” come up, so add those to the list and cross them out, so you don’t feel like the day was wasted and you didn’t get to the things originally on your list.
Listen to something inspirational. I have become a huge fan of podcasts and audio books that are about making our lives simpler and more purposeful. Whether its faith-driven or not, motivational audio gets me on the right track to make efficient use of my time.
Put down the phone. I am guilty of being on my phone too much, I’ll admit it. I have tried to scale it back and notice that when I do, I am in the moment and get more done. It can be easy to let it take over your life, but set some boundaries and schedule time where you can check your phone and then leave it be while you are getting your other tasks done or spending time with your loved ones.
Find a mantra that speaks to you. Starting your day with an affirmation can really set the tone. Some of my personal favorites include “I am capable and strong,” “I can handle anything life throws at me today,” and “nothing can stop me.” It might take some getting used to, but I have found that these can be really powerful in shifting your mindset and perspective.
